Downtown (between I-35 and Mopac, north of the river, and south of MLK Boulevard) living is for the young at heart. It isn't quiet and it isn't cheap.
South Central (South of the river, and North of Ben White) is quite possible the coolest area to live. If you are hip and cool, love a bar with a patio, and never want to walk more than 50 feet to grab lunch at a food trailer, then check out 78704.
North Central (North of campus, South of 183) This area is a great community full of older homes, and lots of local stores.
Northwest The arboretum and other shopping centers are sure to keep you busy for shopping, and a plethora of nice communities ranging in price. West of 183 you will find rolling hills with some great views.
South by Southwest; You'll find great shopping from east to west, varieties of neighborhoods, and west of Mopac, throughout the hill country, rolling hills offer fantastic views
East (between Riverside Dr and Airport Blvd) Definitely cool, and not as rough as it used to be. This area is full of a unique character, offers incredible downtown views, and is still somewhat affordable.
